 What is Human Resource Management?

Human Resource Management is a branch of management that is related to the staff of the company in terms of hiring, compensation, performance, safety, wellness, benefits, motivation and training.

Human Resource Management basically focuses mainly on the recruitment of, management of and providing guidelines to the manpower in a company.

It is about managing the people in an organization.  Human resource management motivates the workforce of an organization to contribute efficiently and effectively towards the overall achievement of organizational goals.

As we know human resources are the most important assets of an organization; a business cannot be successful without effectively managing this resource. This resources can do wonder for the organization if handled properly. They can turn the fortune of the organization if their services are utilized properly. There may be much technological involvement but it is ultimately human brain that decides what to do and how.

All organizations have people and these are called human resources. Principles of Human Resources can be applied in all the organizations regardless of the size of an organization or the extent of its resources.  Organizations survive and thrive because of the capabilities and performance of its manpower.  The activities are necessary to maximize those capabilities and that performance are necessary.

Functions of Human Resource Management

In Human Resource Management, resources are used to support the personal goals of each employee. It includes offering the opportunity for education or career development as well as maintaining employee satisfaction.

Functional objectives of Human resources are to keep the HR functioning properly within the organization. It includes ensuring that all of HR’s resources are being allocated to its full potential.

Organisational objectives of Human Resources Management is to ensure the efficiency of the organization. It includes providing training, hiring the right people for a given task or maintaining high employee retention rates.

Apart from it, the function of Human resource management is to keep the business a pleasant place in which to work.  It also makes aware of employment law to both employee and employer. 

Human Resources Management department also resolve disputes before they arise, fire the staff that may not add to the overall ethos and mediate between staff and management when problems take place.

Talent management and workforce management is another major function of Human Resource Management. It includes job role assignment and career development, Compensation and benefits, Labor law compliance, Performance management, Training and development, Employee engagement and recognition, Team building etc.
